Senior Employment
As the old adage goes, it’s never too late to learn a new skill. The Dr. Piper Center’s Senior Employment and Empowerment program provides education and skill development opportunities to older adults.
The best in computer learning: Using a simple, easy-to-understand system, seniors will learn new computer skills using Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel. These skills provide invaluable resources for communicating, connecting, and even tracking your finances. Computers are provided for these on-site workshops:
- Resume building: It’s never too late to show your skills and detail your accomplishments. We will give you the tools to create a first resume or build on an existing one. If you still have more to offer and believe an employer can use your talent and skills, then a slick, polished resume is just the ticket as you search for a job.
- Interview skills: Once armed with a great resume, it’s all about how you present yourself. We will train you on communication, listening, and conservation techniques so you’re ready for a job interview
- Online job applications: with your new computer skills, resume, and interview techniques in place, the next step is to get you noticed. Paper job applications are a thing of the past. Most employers only accept applications through online web portals. We will show you how to post your skills on various job websites or search for the position that best suits your talents.
Our classes
Classes are open enrollment with a limited number of seats to allow more one-on-one training for our clients. The classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m. Before attending a computer class for the first time, please contact the Dr. Piper Center to complete your enrollment paperwork.
